CHAINED HEAT (1983) $225
35mm Agfa Print in Great Condition. Decent Color. Reel bands. No VS
DIR: Paul Nicholas (Lutz Schaarwaechter)
CAST: Linda Blair, John Vernon, Sybil Danning
Linda Blair is Carol, a young woman who must serve 18 months in prison after accidentally killing a man. The prison is brimming with decadence, corruption, and sleaze; the other female inmates are sadistic, and the guards and warden are no better. Racial tensions are high as the inmates divide into two factions.
Star Linda Blair said the script kept getting re-written and it ended up not resembling the script for which she had originally signed. That included adding several nude scenes, including her topless shower scene. It was her first onscreen nudity and producers told her, "If you don't, you'll never work again."
REVIEWS:
For fans of the women-in-prison film genre, your Citizen Kane is here. Chained Heat has every stereotype, every impossible/improbable plot point, and every bit dialogue you’ve ever seen/heard in every other women-in-prison movie, then pumps them up tenfold, and unleashes them in a never-ending barrage on your senses. Yet for all that, it's a movie that's virtually impossible to dislike. It seems to make up for all it's shortcomings by never, ever, being boring. And it has a cast for B-movie fans to die for.
Newbie Linda Blair (The Exorcist kid all grown up) enters a tough women's prison, where lesbianism, drug use, racial tension, violence and sneering are prevalent. The white inmates are ruled by tough-talking Erika (Sybil Danning, star of more b-grade nudies than you can shake a stick at), the black ones by tough-talking Dutchess (fabulous Tamara Dobson of Cleopatra Jones fame). Also in the mix are veterans John Vernon (at his sleaziest!), Stella Stevens, and Henry Silva. The superior cast is one of the things that makes Chained Heat so great. The other is the sheer ludicrousness of it! The best women-in-prison movie I've ever seen. Highly recommended!

35mm Print Eastman 28. I thought it was LLP judging by the colors. I’m considering that may be in that transitory period when LLP was first coming in. Colors are magnificent. Print is LAB MINT with intact leaders. You won’t find a better print than this. Worthy of archival purposes.
DIR: Graeme Clifford,CAST: Jessica Lange, Sam Shepard, Kim Stanley, MUSIC: John Barry CINEMATOGRAPHY: Laslo Kovacs!!
Not exactly a “feel good movie” but a noteworthy telling of the tragic life of Frances Farmer, doomed Hollywood star. It’s noted that “Jessica Lange’s performance in this film has been said to be actor Sir Anthony Hopkin’s favorite by an actress.” Noted also of being Kevin Costner’s first “walk-on” motion picture role although uncredited.

THE PATRIOT (2000) $425
35mm Scope LPP mylar Print in Great Condition. 9 reels shipped on 4’’ cores.
DIR: Roland Emmerich CAST: Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger, Joely Richardson
Random trivia:
--Heath Ledger hadn’t work for a year because he only got offers for teen heartthrob roles. He was about to quit acting, and return to Australia, when he was cast in this film.
--The historical accuracy of the costumes and settings was overseen by the Smithsonian Institution. It was the first time The Smithsonian ever worked directly on the production of a movie.
--When teaching Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger how to shoot a muzzle-loading rifle, technical advisor Mark Baker gave them the advice to "aim small, miss small," meaning that if you aim at a man and miss, you miss the man, while if you aim at a button (for instance) and miss, you still hit the man. Gibson liked this bit advice so much, he incorporated it into the movie, just prior to the ambush scene.
--Heath Ledger said researching the American Revolutionary War for the film answered his question of why Americans wave their flag so high. "It's because they went to hell and back to build their country."
--Actual amputees were cast to play soldiers who lost their limbs.

“I was working as an usher at my local cinema when I first saw this movie, so I saw it quite a few times and it seemed to get better with every viewing. The story is of American disc jockey Howard Stern and his rise to superstardom. It has a great script with good scenes especially the one through the end titles.”

35mm LPP Print in Great Condition. Great Color. Currently mounted on 4,000’ cores. No VS
DIR: Barbra Streisand CAST: Barbra Streisand, Amy Irving, Mandy Patinkin
*Academy Award for Best Score* *Grammy nominations for TWO songs*
Eastern Europe, 1904. A young Jewish woman, Yentl, has a thirst for knowledge but is prohibited from learning due to the restrictions of her religion. When her father dies, she sets off to increase her knowledge, posing as her brother in order to gain admission to a Jewish religious school.
Hailed by Steven Spielberg as the "best directorial debut since Citizen Kane."
Streisand worked more than 15 years to bring this film to the big screen, and it was well worth the effort. YENTL is an absolute triumph. Every single aspect of the film works flawlessly: the story is clever, the dialogue is extremely well-written, the cinematography is beautiful, and the performances are first-rate.
The opening song Where Is It Written, the soulful Papa, Can You Hear Me?, The Way He Makes Me Feel, and the closing A Piece of Sky are some of the stand-out performances. This is Streisand's first directing effort and she was the first woman to win a Golden Globe for it. She pulls solid performances from everyone and tells her story with a fresh sense of style rarely seen in film today.
Picture Disclaimer: Imperfections on the platen may add some scratches and dirt which is not on the film. In addition, there is some warming in some pictures due to the phasing of backlite bulbs.

True Story: I came in to work the last day of production. Routine enough, or so it seemed. One of the last scenes to finish production was a bridge explosion which required multiple cameras to photograph it. My responsibility was to roll an eyemo in a crash housing mounted up high on set. The AD called, "Roll camera!" which was my cue to turn on the camera and run away. For some reason, the FX guys blew up the bridge while I was still standing on it and I barely made it to safety. At the end of the day, Allen Daviau presented me with a bottle of champagne.
