!!A DISNEY COLLECTOR'S DREAM!!
Back in the day, Hollywood had “Studio Projectionists” to run double system dailies and screenings for all the major lots in Los Angeles. One of those guys was Chris Spanoudis. (RIP). Chris was a cranky ole’ IA Projectionist, serviceman, machinist, and junk dealer that would buy and sell booths from his plot of land in Palmdale. Cut to my friend Tom who had these machines, and commissioned Chris to completely rebuild them.
Then...Chris died halfway through the project. Tom went to reclaim his projectors from the property, and just grabbed what he could, not knowing the whereabouts of all parts. Once I got the machines, I envisioned myself creating a portable rolling projection booth for outdoor screenings promoting the “Disney” aspect of the machines. The reality of the situation is, it will take too much time for me, and I don’t need another project at the moment. Plus there are parts that need to be purchased to make the system complete.
So what we have here is all that’s left. I contacted my ex-boss Don Iwerks to see if he wants to put these in the Disney Museum in San Francisco, but as he noted…they have an abundance of vintage production equipment from the studio which still needs to find a place at the Museum, such as optical printers, animation stands, etc. Thus the bottom line: no room. I would love to keep these. They are certainly cool, but they must go. Use them for parts if you must. Sold “as is.”
